0 / 0Welcome to /k/, 4chan's weapons board. Our board centers around weapons, armor, and other myriad military technology. While guns are the primary topic, threads involving any other sort of weapons, from swords and knives to tanks and jet fighters, come up frequently as well.
Discussions about politics, current events, or gun control belong on >>>/pol/
Before posting a thread, please check our catalog to ensure that a thread about the same topic does not already exist. 35 / 1Why no clubs, spears, warhammers or swords? I understand longbows, as you can make more arrows as needed, but they seriously need more than a swiss knife. Small village can certainly make steel weapons too.

34 / 1US soldiers drop live grenades from drone in Germany say tactic will soon be part of normal training>The U.S. Army took a step toward integrating killer drones into its battlefield tactics after it dropped live grenades from the air at a training area in Germany this week.
>Members of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Tennessee Army National Guard on Wednesday became the first conventional soldiers to detonate an M67 fragmentation grenade from a drone-borne dropper, Army officials on site said.
>The plastic device, known as Audible, was attached to the undercarriage of a Skydio X10D drone that attacked a simulated vehicle convoy at the Grafenwoehr Training Area.
>On Wednesday, 1st Lt. David Baker checked Audible’s dropper device. He then attached a hand grenade, making sure the pin was in the correct position to be pulled. He removed the safety clip and the drone was airborne.
The US has finally caught up with early 2022 quadcopter drone warfare:

5 / 114.5x114mm SABOT vs .58 Caliber MinieWhat would the big differences be between a 14.5x114m SABOT round and a .58 Cal Minie ball when it comes to soft targets?
I know the .58 wouldn't penetrate armor near as well (if at all), but I'm not sure if it'd do more or less damage v. soft tissue.
Context; considering the viability of an ACW mod for Halo MCC, and want to get an idea of what rifled musket damage would/should be. Sniper ammo seems the nearest and most suitable match.

230 / 37FCAS: time for a clear cut>The head of French aircraft manufacturer Dassault, Eric Trappier, has repeatedly pointed out in the past that his company is capable of building the fighter aircraft for the trilateral Future Combat Air System (FCAS) flagship project on its own. At the beginning of the Paris Air Show last week, he called for FCAS to focus more strongly on the fighter and for French industry to play a greater role in the project, thereby calling into question existing agreements regarding the division of labor. Alternatively, he hinted at pulling out of the program.
>If you put yourself in Trappier's position, his demands make perfect sense. Why should Dassault share the know-how yet to be developed for 6th generation fighter aircraft with Airbus on the basis of an inefficient and complex set of rules laid down in seven so-called pillars? Why invest time and effort in coordinating the FCAS project when the order books for the Rafale fighter jet are full to bursting and the development of a new generation of the aircraft plus a companion combat drone has already been commissioned by the French Ministry of Defense?
>On this side of the Rhine, Dassault's announcement should be understood correctly: Dassault wants clear leadership at FCAS and would otherwise - as the past few years have shown - keep shooting crossways or dropping out. A sensible product cannot be developed in this way.

92 / 22Polish Air Force Chief Flies South Korea’s KF-21https://defensetalks.com/polish-air-force-chief-flies-south-koreas-kf-21-as-bilateral-defense-ties-advance/
>Polish Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Ireneusz Nowak flew South Korea’s KF-21 Boramae fighter jet during an official visit this week, underscoring deepening military and industrial cooperation between Warsaw and Seoul.
>The visit included high-level talks at South Korea’s Air Force Headquarters in Gyeryongdae, where Gen. Nowak met with ROK Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Lee Young-soo. Both commanders expressed a shared commitment to expanding collaboration in areas ranging from airpower development to defense manufacturing and pilot training.
>Poland has rapidly emerged as a key defense partner for South Korea in Europe. In 2022, the two countries signed a landmark agreement for 48 FA-50 light combat aircraft, produced by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). Twelve of those—designated FA-50GF—are already in service with the Polish Air Force. Deliveries of the remaining 36 FA-50PL variants are ongoing.
>The program forms part of Poland’s broader efforts to modernize its fleet and diversify its defense suppliers amid shifting regional dynamics.
>During his stop at KAI headquarters, Gen. Nowak boarded a KF-21 prototype alongside a company test pilot to assess the aircraft’s handling and performance. The flight marked a rare hands-on evaluation by a foreign military chief and signals growing interest in the Boramae platform, which is expected to enter full-scale production later this decade.
>While no formal procurement discussions have been disclosed, the visit suggests Poland may be open to exploring long-term industrial collaboration beyond the FA-50.
What are the implications of the head of your air force having a test flight aboard a prototype aircraft?

62 / 15>The PL-15 is at the very least leveling the playing field and in some cases, posing problems that put the United States at a range disadvantage with AMRAAM,” Bronk adds. Indeed, the appearance of the PL-15 has already contributed to a rush from the U.S. side to push for longer-range AAMs, like the AIM-260 and AIM-174B.
>The PL-15 should also be characterized by the advantages of its AESA seeker, Bronk notes. “Just based on the physics of an AESA seeker versus a mechanically scanned seeker or a fixed PESA-type seeker, it should be higher resolution, more resistant to ECM, and work better in jamming environments.” Beyond that, it likely has a better ability to home in on stealth targets.
>The Chinese, for a long time, were essentially followers and were either customers for Russian weapons or were essentially producing clones of Western systems as best they could, whether that be Python clones, Sidewinder clones, or Sparrow clones,” Bronk continues. “The PL-15 is different, and so it represents a significant maturation of the Chinese industrial and research and development base.” Meanwhile, the PL-15 is just one of several Chinese AAM programs that are looking at very long-range performance in particular. While continuing to develop and improve its AAMs, China is also able to produce them in large quantities.
Why nobody else tried installing AESA seekers onto AAMs before?:

3. Who makes the best shoulder holsters?
post your deagles if you have one. also, the manual lies about having to shoot the right ammo out of it and use a certain stance for proper function. at least for my old 357 one, I couldn't find any ammo it didn't like, and I could shoot it sloppily with one hand & it wouldn't jam either. Maybe the 44/50 ones are more picky?
1 / 1How often do soldiers encounter wild animals at bases? Do soldiers ever do stupid shit with them?
114 / 40It would be a good time to invest in hesco walling in storage containers on your homestead property. They just werk for fortification if you have a family you could easily setup a secure base. Not even 50 cal would penetrate it. To get a 500sqft perimeter it wouldnt even cost more than $2500 if you have your own tractor
You'd need a tractor to fill them, and your fucking house would look a god damn military base, but it would be secure. Just have someone patrol at night with thermal binocs with a ladder at each 4 corners with a combat rifle and plenty of ammo. You could realistically get away with 3 people in the apocalypse.
Is there really any reason not to do this? Even if you live somewhere green, just use green hescos from china.

>"low shelf" lower receiver

86 / 12what do they do exactly??what the fuck does chinas military actually do besides drills and training??? you obviously hear about russian and american soldiers doing joint military operations in other countries but despite being part of "the big 3" it seems like outside of random border disputes with india, they arent really involved in anything that would give their soldiers some kind of warfare experience. im no military strategist or anything but you would think they would be trying to get as much experience possible like north korea seems to be trying in ukraine.

68 / 21Had the Germans won WW2 what kind of technological advancements in weapons would humanity have achieved by 2025?
35 / 2>hollow points/dum dum rounds were frowned upon in the past.
>it was seen as inhumane and excessive.
>Shooting to incapacitate was preferred over shooting to kill.
>It was highly preferable because it wasted medical resources for the enemy force and was seen as avoiding unnecessary death.
>Now almost all rounds marketed for self defense and civilian/police use are hollow points or some variation
Why the disparity? Has the ethical fiber in western society degraded, or is it just powertripping? I know, Classic OP being a bleeding heart faggot, but it's shocking to me how killing an attacker is revered and desired. I suppose it always has been, but it seems like lethality is a lot more of a selling point than it used to be in the past when it comes to ammunition. Why do you think that is?

71 / 13Well, well, looks like after falling off a floating dry dock, getting a massive hole on the hull and several fires later, the Admiral Kuzmetsov can still float. Picture taken yesterday.
She was supposed to have been handed back over to the Russian Navy in early 2024, but, well, you know.
Chances to see her sailing again? or even launching planes? (last one was 10 years ago)

140 / 25What on gods green earth will replace this?I have mixed feelings about the SA80, outside weighing too much for an assault rifle the A2/A3 have been reliable but the A1 taints my ability to appreciate the 1990s UK military, like even if the Gulf War was largely just artillery duels and air strikes I find it so hard to fathom the idea of our government sending thousands of frontline troops to a battlefield with a rifle that has a 50/50 chance of not working for years on end without bothering to do anything about it. People say the money spent repairing the SA80 could've been spent on a whole new rifle and I agree with them. We could've went with the FNC, AUG, M16/M4 or G36.. But now that we're here what is actually likely to replace it? I get that Project Grayburn is in the early days but it's frustrating how vague the answers I've been given are, the most I know is that Beretta are considering making an entry but outside of that it's the same surface level guestimating about us copying the NGSW (fat chance) or adopting a new calibre. Why not a 5.56 rifle like literally every other NATO member?

What's your favorite Kriegsmarine (or Reichsmarine) warship?
26 / 3So, why did Saruman deploy his entire army to Helms' Deep and leave Isengard mostly defenseless?

381 / 24Okay so what is the deal with EU intelligence agencies warning about Russia attacking NATO in a few years?
Sure Russia might have better drones and more men overall but at this point the war has burned through so much of their equipment that they will not recover for a long time. If they are running out of tanks, how can they threaten an attack a few years from now on?
I'm thinking that the states and media in Europe are slowly trying to acclimate the people to higher military spending (and eventual social cuts that it entails) because they still refuse to confront the reality that they are stuck between roostering for the US and making the painful political reforms and sovereignty sacrifices for an effective EU-level defense not dependent on the US.

why?
